Local gospel singing group ‘Unity’ plan to bring a ray of hope to children in the Philippines, with the production of a CD of two songs written by group member Jill Steele. Moved by watching ITN News coverage about the ‘Kids behind Bars’ campaign - www.jubileeaction.co.uk ‘Unity’ raised nearly £900 for the charity by holding a gospel concert to which they invited the Mayor & Mayoress of Colchester. On hearing ‘His Light Will Shine’, a song written especially for the children, the Mayor put ‘Unity’ in touch with ex Mayor, Ivan Trusler who will be releasing their CD under his record label - www.brevanrecords.co.uk ‘Unity’ member Jeanette said “The Mayor offered us the use of the Mayoral Suite for further fundraising so we staged another concert inviting sponsorship for the production of our CD and we asked Town Crier Robert Needham to act as auctioneer of items donated by local businesses, including a bottle of House of Commons wine given by Bob Russell MP. We have been absolutely amazed at the generosity of all our supporters who have contributed over £2000. Recording is underway with Justin Jay of J.Bird Studios and we plan to have our CD ready for sale by June”. For further details please visit www.unitygospel.co.uk
